Located a three and a half hour drive east of Perth and just a half hour drive north of Merredin is the delightful town of Nungarin.
Nungarin was a depot for Australian army personnel from 1944 to 1960. Visit the Machinery and Army Museum for an insight into the past. It is located in an original army warehouse and shows off a rich collection of army equipment and pioneer artefacts. Mangowine Homestead, 14 kilometres north of the town, was a wayside stop on the way to the Goldfields for many travellers. It has been restored to its original condition and describes the life of the pioneers in the 1870’s in the district. The homestead also hosts an annual music event called Mangowine Concert.
For those wanting to get out and explore the area, visits to Danberrin Rock, Eaglestone Rock and Talgomine Reserve are highly recommended. They offer stunning views, and an opportunity to explore the vast Wheatbelt landscape.
The Nungarin Wheatbelt Markets are known throughout the district. They are held on the first Sunday of each month, March to December from 8am – 12pm.
